A Strange New Threat
icon Quest
Type: Campaign
Category: Altgard
Level: 20
Asmodian Only

Description:
Talk with Suthran. Go to Zemurru's Grave and find Abyss Gate. Then, go into the sealed place. Destroy the Guardian Stone that maintains the Abyss Gate. [%8] Defeat Officer Tavasha. [%11] Destroy the Kuninasha. [%14] Destroy the Abyss Gate to Balaurea. [%17] Report the results to Suthran. Order: Talk to Brigade General Suthran and receive orders for a secret mission imperative to Altgard's very survival.
Summary:
You found out that the Mau were trying to open an Abyss Gate. After discovering the Gate camouflaged as a tree, you entered the sealed area and came upon a large Guardian Stone.

When the Guardian Stone stopped operating, a Balaur soldier appeared. You dispatched it and destroyed the Gate to Balaurea.

Suthran fears that the gate may portend a Balaur invasion, bringing even larger forces and materiel directly to Atreia.

Full quest's text:
Player, I'm disappointed in how our efforts against the Black Claw Tribe have gone so far.

Azphel once cautioned his soldiers to strike at the enemy's root, not its branches. So far your efforts have pruned back many branches, but the tree itself--the Black Claw Tribe, if you're following me--remains as healthy as ever.

Are you ready to strike at the root for a change, [%userclass]?
Hah! My subordinates have failed to provide me with useful intelligence, but I've pieced together the Mau goal: open an Abyss Gate.

The first clue was the refined Odella they were stockpiling--Odella is useful for manipulating Aether and powering a gate-opening ritual.

The second clue was Zemurru. The Mau started to venerate Zemurru because he is buried near an ancient portal that could be redirected to the Abyss. They must be trying to bring the Balaur to Asmodae.
Yes, I'm sure...not that you have any credibility to be second-guessing your superiors. You do have credibility when it comes to closing Abyss Gates, though--or so I'm told.

For better or for worse, you're the best soldier for this job

If you're ready, I'll teleport you to Zemurru's Grave near the Abyss Gate. It's inside a huge tree. It is imperative that you destroy the gate. Got it?

Azphelumbra, Player. I await a full report...of your success.

Did you destroy the gate? And did you confirm that the Balaur were behind it all?

Beritra? You're sure? Oh, this is bad news for us all, Player.

Beritra has uncovered the secret to manipulating Ide. It is that same secret that powers your Bastion. If he were to find a way to fuse its power with the Abyss gates, it may be possible for him to bring large-scale forces into Atreia. Maybe even a Dredgion!

I will report all this to Kvasir in Pandaemonium. And take note, Meiyer...I expect all my soldiers to deliver results like Player just did.
